- HIGHCROSS ‘WELCOMES ALL’ AS NEW ‘MULTI-FAITH ROOM UNVEILED
The launch event, held on Tuesday 1 September 2026, marked the official opening of the new facility, which has been completely transformed following feedback from the wider Leicester community.
The new facility, which is now located in the centre’s former Shopmobility suite on level two of the roof top car park represents a significant investment in visitor wellbeing, offering purpose-built prayer spaces for quiet worship, an inviting entryway designed to put visitors at ease, inspiring visuals reflecting the city’s multi-cultural identity and dedicated washroom facilities for all.
Invited guests gathered to tour the newly refreshed space, which now provides shoppers, retailers and city centre visitors of all faiths, a refreshed, spacious and private retreat.
The project also highlights the impact of community voice, with the decision to invest and upgrade from the previous room stemming from feedback from shoppers, directly to Highcross management— including a compelling email from a visitor to the centre, detailing the need for a more welcoming facility.
Today’s launch was a real celebration of Leicester’s fantastic community spirit. Bringing together our guests and retailers to cut the ribbon on the space was a proud moment for us all. “Leicester is a city built on diversity and mutual respect, and when our shoppers told us that the previous space wasn’t meeting their needs, we knew we needed to make a change. Thanks to the feedback we received, we’ve been able to create a larger, more welcoming space for people of all faiths, offering shoppers, retailers and our own team a peaceful sanctuary to sit, pray or relax.
Reverend Canon Dr Sarah Gill, Leicester Cathedral, said:
"It was great to join Highcross for the opening of its new Multi-Faith Room. The prayer room facilities are good as they feel invitational, spacious and peaceful—a place for all in the heart of the city. I hope it will be used for many special moments."
Zubeir Patel, a local shopper and resident who emailed Highcross’ management team to provide feedback on the previous facility, added:
"This is a fantastic new space that’s available to all faiths with amazing facilities. It really is one of the best Multi-Faith Rooms I have ever seen. Whether you’re shopping, or working in the city, this space allows all to practice their faith. A huge thank you to the team at Highcross for providing such a great facility."
The new multi-faith room is now officially open to drop-in and welcomes anyone, from any background, during the centre’s opening hours.
